2 dogs put down after attack on Mo. postal worker

FULTON, Mo. (AP) - Two pit bulls that were suspected of severely wounding a postal worker in central Missouri have been put down.

KRCG-TV reports a veterinarian euthanized the dogs Monday. Fulton police say the dogs' owners cooperated with the investigation and the decision to euthanize them.

The letter carrier was attacked March 1 outside a Fulton house whose owner was caring for pit bulls belonging to someone else.

Authorities said the homeowner opened her front door and the two dogs escaped just as the 54-year-old letter carrier approached. He was badly bitten on the face and the arm.

Fulton postmaster Roger Bounds says the man is recovering at his Jefferson City home but will need two or three plastic surgeries to repair the damage to his face.
