Cole County Judge Jon Beetem sentenced a Jefferson City man to 10 years in prison this week after he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from him fleeing a traffic stop in September 2010.
Mitchell P. Gambow, 29, of 720 W. McCarty St., pleaded guilty to first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property and driving while revoked.
Police reported that when an officer stopped a 2011 Kia Sorrento for speeding on U.S. 54 West, "the suspect's door opened rapidly (and he) stepped out of the vehicle, turning in my direction wielding a knife in his right hand."
But Gambo dropped the knife when his hand hit the door. When the officer kicked the knife away, Gambow ran. The chase crossed Ellis Boulevard and ended in a parking lot, where the officer "actively struggled" with Gambow until assistance arrived.
