NEW YORK (AP) - A Palestinian grocer portrayed as a terrorist in the movie "Bruno" has taken his defamation case from Washington, D.C., to New York City.
Ayman Abu Aita's lawsuit against "Bruno" star Sacha Baron Cohen, David Letterman and others was filed Tuesday in a Manhattan court. D.C. Superior Court records show everyone involved agreed the case could be moved.
In the 2009 comedy, Baron Cohen plays an Austrian fashion journalist aiming to make peace in the Middle East. He interviews Abu Aita, who's labeled in a caption as a member of the militant Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade.
Baron Cohen discussed Bruno's encounter with a "terrorist" on Letterman's "Late Show" on CBS.
The British comedian and Letterman say in court papers the statements are protected by free speech and other legal principles.
