Missouri House panel considers union dues bill

A Missouri House committee considered legislation this week that would require labor unions to get written permission from their members before deducting dues from their paychecks.

Under the bill, employees would need to sign a form each year that gives their employer permission to make the deductions. That requirement would be combined with legislation sponsored by House Speaker Pro Tem Shane Schoeller that also would demand that workers sign a form every year authorizing a union to use any money from their paychecks for political purposes.

The House Workforce Development and Workplace Safety Committee considered the legislation Monday but did not vote on it.
