JC officials optimistic river won't affect July 4 event

June 30th, 2011 by Lydia Meyer in News

Always the highlight of Jefferson City's Salute to America celebration, the 2011 fireworks once again will be choreographed to patriotic music, which will be broadcast on Jeff 104.1 FM. Officials are keeping a close eye on the water level of the Missouri River, but don't believe potential flooding will threaten the display.

The fireworks are still on for Monday night in Jefferson City.

In a news conference Wednesday, Mayor Eric Struemph announced the expected river level of 26 to 27 feet should not affect the annual Independence Day fireworks display.

The remainder of the July 4 festivities also are not expected to be affected by the river levels. If low-lying city streets are impassable because of high water, festival attendees are reminded to check the Salute to America website for updated information.
