Suspect charged in Sunday shooting in Jefferson City (corrected)

On June 26, 2011 at around 12:45 a.m., Jefferson City Police responded to a call of a shooting victim at a local hospital. After further investigation, it was learned that the shooting was a result of a domestic disturbance between a father and son.

Officers responded to the location where the shooting occurred, which was a residence in the 4700 block of Leandra Lane. Jefferson City Police attempted to make contact with the suspect in the shooting, who would not respond. Due to the nature of the assault, Jefferson City SWAT and the Crisis Negotiations Team were summoned to the scene.

After establishing tactical command by SWAT, crisis negotiators spoke with the suspect for some time. After an hour of negotiations, the suspect came out of the residence and was taken into custody without incident by JCPD personnel.

The victim, a 24 year old Jefferson City male, suffered serious a gunshot wound to his foot but was stabilized by hospital personnel.

The suspect, Rodney Michael Pritchard Senior, 44 of Jefferson City, was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action. He is currently held in the Cole County Jail with no bond.

CORRECTION, posted June 30, 2011:

Jefferson City police have corrected the name of a suspect in connection with a shooting on Leandra Lane on June 26. Police now say the suspect's name was not released in full, leading to confusion as to the identity of the suspect.

Information initially released was for Michael Pritchard Senior, 44 of Jefferson City, who was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action. The full name of the suspect is Rodney Michael Pritchard, Sr., age, 44. The text above in the body of the original story has been corrected to reflect that.

Michael Pritchard, Sr., is actually the uncle of the victim in this case, and was not involved in the incident.
