Curtain going down on Missouri film office

Gov. Jay Nixon is eliminating the two-member state agency that works to entice filmmakers to Missouri as part of his cuts to balance the state budget.

The office will close at the end of this month.

Earlier this month, Nixon withheld the $175,000 funding that was appropriated by the Legislature for the office's budget for the fiscal year starting July 1.

Some of the office's duties will be transferred to the Department of Economic Development, which will continue to administer film tax credits, Luebbering said.

State Budget Director Linda said the state gave out about $4 million in film tax credits in 2009 and $3 million in 2010.
