Mid-Missouri's two U.S. Representatives, Republicans Vicky Hartzler, Harrisonville, and Blaine Luetkemeyer, St. Elizabeth, will be in Jefferson City on Monday to meet with city and county leaders, emergency officials and representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The lawmakers' plans include traveling to the Jefferson City Memorial Airport and the former Cedar City area to look at what's happened in the 18 years since the record-setting floods of 1993 destroyed many homes and businesses in the river valley.
With renewed fears that record-setting releases of water from the Corps' six dams and reservoirs on the upper Missouri River will cause major flooding headaches along the river as it flows through Mid-Missouri, Hartzler promised: "We stand ready to assist in any way we can."
Jefferson City officials will hold a "Flood Information Meeting" from 4-6 p.m. Thursday in City Hall's Boone-Bancroft Conference Room, across the second-floor entry hallway from the City Council chambers.
City officials will be available to answer residents' questions about the potential flooding this summer.
