KC man charged with stealing Joplin computers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A 41-year-old Kansas City man faces charges in connection with allegedly stealing computers from a Joplin elementary school damaged in last month's tornado.

The Kansas City Star reported that Charles Rice has been charged with four counts of receiving stolen property and was jailed Tuesday on $10,000 bond.

Rice, however, told Kansas City police he did not visit Joplin and didn't steal the computers. Online court records don't list a lawyer for Rice.

Police said they found out about the stolen computers when they were called by the owner of a computer technical support company. The owner said Rice called seeking help unlocking the password-lock on one of the computers.

Police said they linked the computers to Emerson Elementary School, which sustained severe damage in the May 22 EF-5 tornado.
