Man sentenced to 15 years in heroin deaths

June 14th, 2011 in News

ST. LOUS (AP) - A federal judge has ordered a 15-year prison sentence for a man who sold the heroin that killed two southwestern Illinois men.

Twenty-five-year-old Dean Jordan was sentenced Friday in St. Louis, where he pleaded guilty in February to one count of distribution of heroin resulting in death.

Jordan admitted selling one gram of the drug in 2009 to Derek Allen, who later gave it to Robert Bowden. Both Staunton, Ill., men died of heroin overdoses at Allen's home.

During Friday's sentencing hearing, Jordan apologized to the families of both victims as well as his own.

Jordan must pay more than $17,000 in burial costs of the two men.

A co-defendant, Elsa McKnight, is serving probation after pleading guilty to managing a place used for the making or dealing heroin.
