Suspect in KC toddler's death is 5-year-old girl

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City police say a 5-year-old girl told social workers that she intentionally drowned an 18-month-old boy because he cried too much.

The Kansas City Star reported Thursday that the death last Friday of Jermane Johnson Jr. is being investigated as a possible homicide.

The boy died while a 16-year-old was watching several children. An adult had left the home to pick up a relative of Jermane's, to take him back to his St. Louis-area home.

Police say that the 5-year-old girl allegedly dragged Jermane into a bathtub, which had not been drained after others took baths. Police say she told social workers she didn't like the boy because he cried too much.

The Jackson County medical examiner's office hasn't issued a final ruling on the boy's death.
