Joplin police lift curfew, extra patrols planned

June 4th, 2011 in News

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - Joplin police have lifted a curfew the city had imposed after the May 22 tornado to discourage looting.

City Manager Mark Rohr says the 9 p.m. curfew was lifted on Friday. He says areas damaged by the tornado will be saturated with more patrol officers to curtail looters.

Rohr told The Joplin Globe that spot searches will continue for any remaining victims, although authorities on Thursday said they had accounted for everyone who had been reported missing.

Rescuers were able to save two dogs this week that were trapped under rubble at separate homes since the storm. Rohr says one of the dogs was reunited with its owner and city is still searching for the other owner. He says 296 pets have been reunited with their owners.
