KidsFest on tap Saturday in Jefferson City

Downtown festival will feature petting zoo, hayrides and emergency vehicles on display

June 3rd, 2011 in News

Meara Perkins grins from ear to ear while she holds a little piglet brought to last year's KidsFest in Jefferson City.

More than 60 kid-friendly vendors will line portions of High and Madison streets on Saturday for the 28th Annual Kids Fest.

It literally will be a dog and pony show, with a petting zoo on the library lawn and hayrides around the Capitol grounds.

Ameren Missouri will have a bucket truck on hand to give rides up and down Madison Street, while Jefferson City police and fire vehicles also will be on display.

At least three different artists will provide face painting, so families shouldn't have to wait in line too long.

Jennifer's Photography will set up a photo booth - a great opportunity to pose for a silly family photo. A variety of performing groups will grace the main stage, including a dog drill team called the Mid-Mo Waggers, Gymzzouri, Elite Performing Arts and Project Hysteria. And if your summer isn't booked, Kids Fest is a great opportunity to learn about summer activities for the kids.

The event runs from 10-2 p.m. in the 100, 200, and 300 blocks of High Street and on Madison Street from High Street to Madison's Cafe. Admission is free, but kid-friendly items and concessions will be for sale.
