Suspect arrested after early morning chase

At about 2:00 a.m. Thursday, Jefferson City Police officers attempted to stop a motorcycle that was believed to be driving in a careless and reckless manner on the lot of Jefferson Plaza on Missouri Boulevard.

Two motorcycles left the area at a high rate of speed, and one was stopped near Menards. The other motorcycle was spotted later at Ellis Boulevard and U.S. 54.

A pursuit began, along Highway 179, Route C, then ended at Route D at Heritage Highway where the suspect laid the motorcycle down and fled on foot. The suspect was chased on foot by Jefferson City Police and Cole County Sheriff's deputies and was taken into custody.

The suspect was found to have thrown a quantity of methamphetamine from his person during the foot pursuit, and during the search of the motorcycle over $8,000 in currency was recovered.

The suspect, a 34 year old male Russellville resident, was arrested for Intent to Deliver/Distribute a Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, and various traffic violations during the commission of a felony. His name was being withheld pending the filing of formal charges.

No injuries were reported.
