2 teens hurt in accident

Two Mid-Missouri teenagers received what Jefferson City police called minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident Friday morning.

Jessica Pearson, 17, California, was treated and released from St. Mary's Health Center.

Police said her passenger, Dustin Bruns, 18, Jefferson City, also was taken to a hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries; neither St. Mary's nor Capital Region Medical Center had any information about him.

Under the federal HIPAA law, a patient's health care information can't be released without the approval of a patient or family member.

Police said Pearson was driving a 1996 Toyota Camry northbound in the 3100 block of state Route J, toward Osage City, and "was not looking at the roadway and ran off the right side."

She overcorrected, lost control, and the car again ran off the right side of the road, overturned and landed on its top.

Neither passenger was using a seat belt, police said.
