City cleans up sewer overflow

The Jefferson City Wastewater Division repaired a sanitary sewer line and cleaned up an overflow Friday in the 1300 block of Moreau Drive - the block between Leslie Boulevard and Hough Park Road, north of the Moreau Heights Elementary School.

A city news release said the overflow was caused by a deteriorated sewer main, and resulted in a discharge to a drainage ditch.

It was reported about 11 a.m. Friday, and city crews had the overflow stopped and repaired by about 2 p.m.

Spokeswoman Michelle Gleba said the incident was reported to the Department of Natural Resources, but they had not sent anyone to the scene by late Friday afternoon.

The news release noted the deteriorated section is part of the city wastewater division's more than 320 miles of sanitary sewer pipe sewer service to more than 20,000 customers.

The city treats more than 9 million gallons of wastewater each day.
