Heat blamed in death of woman, 79

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Authorities say a 79-year-old St. Louis woman whose body was found in her bedroom died as a result of the lingering heat wave that is gripping the Midwest.

St. Louis city officials say the woman's body was found by relatives Tuesday morning in her bedroom. The room had a working air-conditioning unit she used largely at night, but that device was turned off when the victim was discovered.

Her bedroom is on the first floor of a two-story brick home.

The medical examiner's office says the woman died of hyperthermia, or heat stroke.

The woman's name was not immediately released.
