Springfield calf stillborn; another giraffe gets name

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Springfield zoo officials have some good and bad giraffe news.

The bad news is that a calf that was stillborn Saturday. The Springfield News-Leader reported that a veterinarian determined the calf was underdeveloped. A necropsy will be performed.

Also Saturday, the zoo announced that a name had been picked for another calf born earlier in the week. The male calf will be called Stretch Jr.

The name got the most votes from the public on the zoo's Facebook profile.

Earlier this week, Stretch Jr. weighed 165 pounds and stood 6 feet, 4 inches tall.
