Wagner doubles Martin in money in Mo. US House bid

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Former Missouri Republican Party Chairman Ann Wagner has twice as much money as attorney Ed Martin in the early stages of their race for a St. Louis-area congressional seat.

Wagner reported about $506,000 in her campaign account as of June 30. Martin reported nearly $226,000.

Wagner and Martin are the only two declared candidates for the 2nd District seat being vacated by Republican Rep. Todd Akin, who is instead running for U.S. Senate in 2012.

Democratic Rep. Russ Carnahan currently represents the 3rd District. But his St. Louis-area seat is being eliminated in next year's elections under new maps drawn after the 2010 Census.

Carnahan has considered running in the 2nd District. He reported about $375,000 in his campaign account at the end of June.
