Rezoning, plat OK'd for Millbottom

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved has rezoning and a preliminary plat for planned unit development at the old Ameren power plant property.

At the commission meeting Thursday, a representative from Capital Mill Bottom presented a plan for the property on West Main Street to become a commercial development, including offices, a restaurant, retail and event space, a welcome center and potentially a farmers market.

Ron Dawson, of Capital Mill Bottom, said the project has been planned for nearly three years, in conjunction with the city, which is the current property owner but will sell to Capital Mill Bottom for the planned unit development. Dawson said the site will be mostly enclosed to allow for special events, such as the farmers market, but most of the area will remain as industrial, raw space.

"I think we're ready to see something happen down there," Dawson said.
