Post 5 Juniors rout West in zone tourney

WASHINGTON -- It was a good start to the zone tournament Wednesday night for the Post 5 Juniors.

The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Aflac Juniors scored seven runs in the final three innings and knocked off the West Jaguars 11-2 in the first round of the event.

Post 5 scored four runs in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead. The first four batters reached base as Kyler Maxey and Nolan Bax picked up singles.

After West got two runs in the fourth, the Juniors responded with two runs in the fifth on an RBI double by Patrick Schnieders and an RBI single by Chandler Wolfe.

The Juniors added a single tally in the sixth and added four more insurance runs in the seventh to add to their lead.

Seth Lehmen picked up the win for Post 5. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk. He hit three batters and had a strikeout. Maxey pitched the final three innings and allowed no runs on one hit while striking out five.

The Juniors pounded out 15 hits in the victory. Bax paced the effort with three hits. Trevor Schnieders, Kyler Maxey, Patric Schnieders and Daniel Castillo all had two hits each.

West finished with just three hits.

Post 5 continues tournament play at 1 p.m. today against Washington.
