SW Missouri man dies in custody

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Authorities are trying to pinpoint the cause of a southwest Missouri man's death in law enforcement custody over the weekend.

The Greene County Sheriff's office identified the man Monday as 32-year-old Joshua Amir Nossoughi (noh-SOO'-gee) of Springfield.

KYTV reports Nossoughi was arrested Saturday afternoon when officers found him, dressed only in underwear, apparently trying to break into city hall in the suburb of Battlefield. Officers used pepper spray and a stun gun but the suspect ran off.

Officers caught up with Nossoughi and took him to a hospital, suspecting he was under the influence of drugs. He died a short time later.

The sheriff's department says preliminary autopsy results showed no specific injuries. The Missouri State Highway Patrol will follow the investigation by sheriff's detectives.
