Document: How the proposed rate increase could affect your water bill

To pay $28 million owed to the Army Corps of Engineers for maintaining Wright Patman Lake, Texarkana Water Utilities officials proposed rate increases to Texas-side city officials for commercial and residential customers. Two options were given: a 31 percent increase or tiered rates. This graphic shows what residential bills could look like for customers inside and outside Texarkana city limits under each billing method.

Some residents who oppose Cirilla's, a new store in Jefferson City, have questioned how the city could give a business license to a store that sells sex toys and X-rated movies, among other things.

The answer lies in a chapter of City Code that was enacted by the City Council in 1996.
