QB prospect Mauk commits to Tigers

July 8th, 2011 in News

The Missouri football team appears to have landed a major recruit for the 2012 season.

Kenton, Ohio, quarterback Maty Mauk posted Thursday on his Facebook account he has committed to play football for the Tigers.

The commitment is not binding as players do not sign letters of intent until after their senior seasons. Missouri cannot comment on commitments until the recruit signs a letter of intent next February.

In his first three seasons at Kenton High School the 6-1, 185-pound Mauk has thrown for 13,519 yards and 151 touchdowns. He also has rushed for 1,981 yards and 35 touchdowns. lists Mauk as a three-star recruit and ranks him as the No. 19 pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2012.

Mauk helped lead Kenton to an 11-2 record and an appearance in the regional finals last season. Kenton scored at least 50 points in nine games in 2011, including twice when it eclipsed the 70-point mark.

Rivals listed other possible schools for Mauk as Michigan, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Illinois among others.

Mauk's older brother Ben was a quarterback at Wake Forest and Cincinnati.

It has been widely reported Missouri had been in pursuit of the country's top-rated quarterback Gunner Kiel from Columbus, Ind.

The Tigers are also chasing Springfield-Hillcrest wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, the No. 1 rated prospect in the country. According to Rivals, Green-Beckhamn - who has not announced his intentions - has had offers from most major schools across the country including Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.

Beckham has 181 catches, for 4,120 yards and 51 touchdowns in three seasons at Hillcrest. He also has won two individual state track titles and helped lead the Hornets to the Class 5 state basketball title in 2010 when he averaged 18.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
