Project pairs seniors and youngsters in LU garden

Julie Hall made a meal of a broccoli, basil and tomato salad. And she's looking forward to a bacon, tomato and basil sandwich next.

Some of the fresh vegetables and herbs came from her community garden bed, a new addition at the Lincoln University Dickinson Research Facility.

Hall is one of the senior citizens participating in the Lincoln Cooperative Extension's "Sprouts and Roots," a three-year research project to study the impacts on mental and physical health that gardening may have on senior adults and children working together.
