Mo. lawmakers seek money for organ donor registry

Some Missouri lawmakers are looking to pump up the financial donations for the state's organ donor registry.

The donor registry is funded largely by $1 contributions made by people getting a driver's license or vehicle registration.

In 1999, the registry received more than $400,000. But contributions had fallen a little more than $140,000 last year.

Legislation pending before a House committee seeks to boost contributions by adding the organ donor registry as a check-off option on state income tax forms. Missouri already has 20 other tax form choices for contributions.
