Missouri senators will be asked this morning to give the Legislature more subpoena powers.
After a brief hearing, President Pro Tem Rob Mayer's proposal passed the Senate's Governmental Accountability Committee on Wednesday afternoon.
Mayer, R-Dexter, said only the Joint Committee on Legislative Research currently has "the power to subpoena documents and records. The standing committees ... merely have the authority to compel witnesses by subpoena."
But his bill would expand to all standing committees in the House and Senate the power to demand documents.
