Outpouring of volunteers needed again this Saturday

Nearly a year ago Lorraine Adkins had an idea that became a mission. At first a mission to herself, then the community.

And while she was met with skepticism to pull off Wreaths for Heroes, which placed a wreath on each of the 1,587 graves at the National Cemetery on the city's east side, Adkins was determined to pull it off in 2010. And she did.

On Dec. 11, throngs of volunteers came out to help Adkins and her advisory board lay the wreaths and hold a ceremony for the fallen.
