Second snow day last week left some wondering why?

School district and area transportation officials likely are keeping one eye on the skies and the other on weather forecasts this week, as more rain, freezing rain and snow are predicted.

Last week's winter storm forced Jefferson City's Public Schools to miss two days of classes, even though many thought the roads had improved drastically between Tuesday and Wednesday - enough that Helias Catholic High School and the three in-town parish elementary schools held classes Wednesday.

But other Mid-Missouri schools, both public and parochial, joined Jefferson City in being closed that second day and, Superintendent Brian Mitchell explained, the rural road conditions caused that second day of closings, "primarily in Callaway County."
