Man gets probation for downloading child pornography

Cole County Judge Jon Beetem recently placed a Jefferson City man on five years supervised probation for pleading guilty to one count of child pornography.

According to court records, Jacob Hart, 19, 108 Lafayette St., downloaded sexual images of females under the age of 14.

Officials said between June and October 2009, Hart used the file-sharing program "Limewire," to download and view sexual images of children.

They said Hart explained he would start about six video downloads at a time and watch the first one that finished. He then would delete the video by moving it to the computer's "recycle bin," then empty the recycle bin.

During a forensic exam of the defendant's computer, the lab was able to locate several still images and videos of child pornography, and located several video links that no longer existed on the hard drive - indicating they had been deleted as Hart had described.

Charges recently were dismissed against an Eldon man in connection with a fire at the new Cole County Jail construction site last October.

James Oliver, 42, had been charged with knowingly burning, possession of a controlled substance and first-degree trespassing.
