City one of three bidders

Springfield, Joplin also submit bids for high school championship

In sports, it is important for competitors to know the opponents they are going up against.

In its bid to keep the Missouri State High School Cross Country Meet, Jefferson City got its first official view of its competition on Thursday.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) officially opened bids for the right to host the race, which has been at the Oak Hills Golf Center for the past 32 years. Three cities submitted bids.

Along with Jefferson City's submission, Springfield and Joplin also tossed their hats into the ring. MSHSAA chief financial officer Craig Long said early indications were that Warrensburg would also submit an application, but that no such application arrived.
