The tragedy in Tucson and recent murders in Central Missouri have again highlighted the role of guns.
Six people were killed in Tucson, but gun extremists use the irresponsible argument that guns protect us. How many people have been saved in Tucson by a gun-slinging private citizens? I doubt there have been six that could be documented.
How is it that we can now carry concealed guns in Missouri yet we have more and more murders?
I am aware of one instance where an attack was warded off by a gun owner. They were very lucky.
There are more murders by people who should not have guns than are prevented by conceal and carry. The net result is more people killed than are saved.
Most murders are murders of passion - someone losing their temper and killing a spouse or someone they know. The victims have no chance, but if a gun had not been readily available, the murder might not have happened.
The more readily guns are available, the greater likelihood that they will fall into the hands of someone who will murder.
The people who support the widespread availability of guns share the responsibility of murder.
