I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the 6th Senatorial District.
I was sworn in as your senator last week and it is truly an honor to serve you in this capacity. I am humbled that you have entrusted me with this responsibility, and am excited about strengthening Central Missouri.
As you know, I am a businessman at heart and I will bring a businessman's way of thinking to the Missouri Senate.
I welcome this chance to enter the business of government in order to make our state competitive in today's global economy. I know that with hard work and communication we will create jobs, increase opportunities, and continue moving the 6th Senatorial District forward.
The Missouri Senate is typically in session Monday through Thursday from early January to mid-May. On Fridays, I look forward to chatting with you, hearing your ideas, and getting your feedback as I continue my quest to find the best cup of coffee in the district. To this end, in the coming days I will post a schedule of locations I will be at and when, and with this letter I invite you to any and all.
I understand that you elected me to be your senator to do two things primarily: 1) put Missourians back to work, and 2) make sure that government works the way it is supposed to work - doing only those things it should, and doing them well.
To this end, the Senate will continue its "Rebooting Government" initiative. The idea being that, much like the Ctrl-Alt-Del operation for the computer, our government needs control, alterations and/or deletions of some programs in order to run more efficiently.
This initiative gives Missouri's citizens the opportunity to share their input and ideas, which can be submitted on the Senate's "Rebooting Government" website (www.senate. mo.gov/RebootMO> www.senate.mo.gov/RebootMO).
These ideas will then be distributed to seven working groups for consideration. I have been selected to serve on the Agriculture, Outdoors, Department of Natural Resources, and Transportation working group, as well the Retirement and Employee Structure working group.
Last year, three separate working groups looked at these same topics and identified a total of $61.2-$62.3 million in taxpayer savings, and I look forward to bettering those results this year.
In preparation for this legislative session, I have prefiled Senate Bill 50 which will create long-term, high paying jobs, enhance our energy security, and ensure that our electric rates remain amongst the lowest in the nation. As this session progresses, I will keep you up to date on the status of this bill and all others that we consider.
