JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - A former city clerk in southwest Missouri was given a 10-year suspended sentence for stealing almost $80,000.
Thirty-three-year-old Heather J. Baugh was sentenced Monday in Jasper County Circuit court. She was also ordered to make $50,000 in restitution to the town of Alba.
Baugh pleaded guilty to theft on Sept. 20. Investigators found that Baugh stole $78,753 from the town during her two years as city clerk. The Joplin Globe reports that Baugh wrote paychecks to herself, and used three city credit cards without authorization. She stole the money from the town's general fund and operating and maintenance account.
