North Carolina man sentenced to prison in stolen car case

January 2nd, 2011 in News

Cole County Judge Jon Beetem recently sentenced a North Carolina man to five years in prison for pleading guilty to one count of receiving stolen property.

Jamie L. Teague , 22, was charged in September 2010.

According to Jefferson City police probable cause statements, Teague and John M. Jenkins, 19, both of Asheville, N.C., were in a purple Dodge Intrepid that was stopped for speeding through the Walmart parking lot, 724 W. Stadium Blvd., on Sept. 23.

A license check showed the car was stolen from White County, Ill., in the southeastern part of that state, near the Indiana border.

The week before this incident, Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman reported Highway Patrol troopers and Maries County deputies were sent to an accident on County Road 217, northeast of Missouri 133 and about halfway between Meta and Brinktown.

They determined the car had been stolen from Asheville, and that the driver had fled the scene.

Jenkins is scheduled for a court appearance in Cole County in February on this case.
