KOMU, Mediacom extend contract through weekend

Local NBC affiliate KOMU 8 and Mediacom have agreed on a temporary extension that allows the cable company to carry KOMU 8 and Mid-Missouri's CW through Monday.

This extension will provide KOMU 8 and Mediacom an opportunity to continue negotiations, which began in July, toward a mutually beneficial agreement.

The current retransmission consent agreement ended at midnight Friday.

Mediacom serves more than 30,000 households in Jefferson City and Columbia.

KOMU is the only university-owned commercial television station in the United States with a newsroom that doubles as a working lab for students.

Its revenues are generated by advertising and retransmission revenues, not through university or state funding.
