JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Democrat Robin Carnahan plans to seek a third term as Missouri's secretary of state. And Republican state Sen. Bill Stouffer intends to challenge her.
Stouffer announced his candidacy Friday. Carnahan spokesman Tony Wyche said later Friday that Carnahan is planning to run again in 2012.
Carnahan first was elected secretary of state in 2004. She lost a bid for U.S. Senate last year.
Stouffer also first won election to the state Senate in 2004. He lost a Republican primary last year for the 4th Congressional District.
Stouffer this year is sponsoring a proposed state constitutional amendment that would authorize mandatory photo identification for voters.
Carnahan has opposed photo ID requirements. She says Missouri has no problem with voters impersonating other people.
