Humane Society gets custody of confiscated dogs

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Humane Society of Missouri has been awarded custody of 74 dogs removed from a licensed breeder in southwest Missouri.

The dogs - collies and Bichon Frises - were removed after authorities said they were living in crates in their own waste, were dehydrated and malnourished, and suffered from respiratory infections and internal parasites.

The Stone County breeder's license was revoked. The breeder signed over custody to the St. Louis-based Humane Society. An investigation continues.

The dogs will eventually be put up for adoption, possibly as early as March 7.
