Mother Nature's 18-inch snowfall gift this week left too much snow on the flat roofs of the two Missouri Health and Senior Services buildings on Wildwood Drive, resulting in an unexpected extra day off Friday for employees.

"Certainly, we've had some unprecedented snow levels for this area," noted Office of Administration spokeswoman Emily Smith. "(Thursday), an engineering firm that we consult with did a more thorough analysis of the buildings, to make sure that the integrity ... was not at risk.

"They came back to us (Friday) morning and said they would like to do an even more in-depth analysis of that, and recommended that the buildings remain unoccupied until snow had been removed and they could get up there and look at that structure again."
