Report: Chinese workers end LG factory strike

December 29th, 2011 in News

BEIJING (AP) - Chinese state media say workers have ended a two-day strike over bonuses and returned to work at a factory in China owned by a unit of South Korea's LG Corp.

The official Xinhua News Agency reported late Wednesday that the workers agreed to resume work after the company, LG Display, offered to double year-end bonuses to equal two months' pay. A worker reached by phone Thursday at the factory dormitory in Nanjing confirmed the strike was over.

New York-based China Labor Watch had reported that the strike involved as many as 8,000 workers at the factory, which makes TVs and computer monitors. The workers complained that the year-end bonuses had been reduced and were far less than those given to South Korean employees.
