Cole Co. Sheriff's Dept. Looking For Suspects in Homicide

The Cole County Sheriff's Department is looking for two Latino/Hispanic males in connection with the shooting death of a man Sunday night in Apache Flats.

Sheriff Greg White said the victim, Francisco Navarro, 26, was living here legally after coming to this country from Mexico.

He died of a gunshot wound to the chest from a 9 mm pistol.

White told media Monday it appeared Navarro was shot after a confrontation in a mobile home park at 5101 Business 50 West around 9:37 p.m.

"The victim had gotten out of a truck to help the driver of the truck who was being assaulted by the driver in the suspect vehicle," White said. "It appears this was over a complaint on how loud the muffler was on the truck and how the driver of the truck had been driving his vehicle."

White said as Navarro was trying to get the drivers apart from each other, the passenger in the suspect vehicle got out, pulled out his weapon and shot Navarro.

The suspects, believed to be in their mid-20s to '30s, were last seen driving a gray late model four-door car with tinted windows.

They are believed to live west of Cole County.

White said they are asking citizens to contact Sgt. Aaron Bollinger at the sheriff's department, 634-9160, if they have information that could help in their investigation.

Tips can also be left on the Crimestoppers Hotline, 659-TIPS.
