With the Feb. 7 election only eight weeks away, the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce's "Transformation Jefferson City" campaign shifted into a higher gear Tuesday.

"We're here today to kick off the final phase of the campaign, as we try to inform the voters of Jefferson City how important this issue is," co-chairman Phil Freeman told reporters and a group of supporters at the campaign's new headquarters, 718 E. Capitol Ave.

Supporters want Jefferson City voters to approve a half-cent sales tax increase for a 10-year period, which is predicted to raise more than $41 million to complete a list of 30 projects around the city.

Correction: The "Transformation Jefferson City" campaign office is at 718 E. Capitol Ave. The address was reported incorrectly in the original version of this story.
