Quick, decisive actions may have averted tragedy at hotel

Last Thursday, Jefferson City Medical Group's president told Lyle Rosberg, the chief financial officer, that it might be good to hire a security guard for the medical group's Saturday Christmas party.

There hadn't been any kind of threats, but with violent events and shootings in the news, Jennett just wanted to ensure the event would be safe.

About 570 JCMG doctors, nurses, other employees and their spouses would be attending. So Rosberg, who also serves as a Cole County reserve deputy, made arrangements to hire an off-duty Cole County deputy to provide security at the event.

"As it turns out, that was the best money we ever spent," Rosberg said.
