Mo. man gets life sentence for girlfriend's death

UNION, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to a lesser charge in his girlfriend's death.

Twenty-eight-year-old Jesse Berry was sentenced Thursday after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Andrea Ray.

Ray was strangled June 10, 2010 at a home in Salem where she lived with Berry. Prosecutors said Berry killed Ray because she wanted to move out of the home.

KY3-TV reports (http://bit.ly/vQSgbs) that Berry was scheduled to go on trial for first-degree murder next Wednesday.
