Local art teacher nationally recognized

Thomas Jefferson Middle School art teacher Holley Smothers recently was recognized for her contributions to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification program.

Smothers is the only art trainer in the nation trained to score the responses of other teachers vying for board certification status in art education.

Participating in this professional development allowed Smothers to represent the Jefferson City Public Schools, while also learning new practices for her own art classroom.

National Board Certified Teachers are highly accomplished educators who meet high and rigorous standards. Since 1987, more than 90,000 teachers have achieved National Board Certification.
