Harris-Stowe names new president

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis will soon have a new president for the first time in more than three decades.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/qbZFwk ) reports that Albert Walker has been chosen to replace Henry Givens Jr., who announced his retirement in April after 32 years as president.

Walker is president of Bluefield State College in West Virginia and has ties to Missouri - he is a graduate of Lincoln University in Jefferson City and once worked at Harris-Stowe. He is scheduled to take over at Harris-Stowe on Oct. 1.
