Car-deer wrecks rising in Town and Country

TOWN AND COUNTRY, Mo. (AP) - Collisions between cars and deer are on the rise again in the St. Louis suburb of Town and Country, and aldermen are looking for an answer.

Police Capt. Gary Hoelzer on Monday recommended hiring an outside firm to come in and shoot several hundred deer. A sterilization program is also an option but Hoelzer says that would not provide the immediate help needed for the problem.

Car-deer accidents dipped to a low of 26 in 2003, but reached 78 last year.

Aldermen will discuss hiring a sharp shooter at their Sept. 12 meeting.
