New curfew for teens begins Friday in parts of KC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City will begin enforcing a new curfew for teenagers in specific entertainment districts.

The 9 p.m. curfew takes effect Friday at the Country Club Plaza and four other entertainment areas for those 18 years old and younger.

The curfew is in response to a shooting last weekend that left three teenagers wounded.

From Memorial Day weekend through the last Sunday in September the curfew will be 9 p.m. on the Country Club Plaza, Westport, Downtown, 18th and Vine, and Zona Rosa. In other parts of the city, the curfew will be 10 p.m. for 15 and under and 11 p.m. for 16- and 17-year-olds.

From October through Memorial Day, the curfew will be 11 p.m. weeknights and midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Violators face a maximum fine of $500.
