Hurricane Greg forms far from Mexico in Pacific

MIAMI (AP) - Forecasters say Hurricane Greg has formed and is farther away from Mexico's Pacific coast as it strengthens.

No watches or warnings are out.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Wednesday the storm had maximum sustained winds near 75 mph (121 kph). It was centered about 280 miles (450 kilometers) west-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico. It's nearly 400 miles (645 kilometers) south-southeast off the southern tip of Baja, Calif.

Forecasters say it is on a generally northwest track out to sea that will keep its center well away from land.

Meanwhile, farther out in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Fernanda is moving slowly west-northwest and strengthening a little. The storm's maximum sustained winds remained near 60 mph (95 kph).
