KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City police board members are seeking raises for Kansas City police officers.

Members of the Kansas City police board have asked the city to find money to give raises to police officers. The request came after the City Council approved raises last month for firefighters.

Board members voted 4-0, with Mayor Sly James abstaining, this week to approve a resolution that encouraged the mayor and city to compensate police officers "to assure that their status is equal to their public safety partners and commensurate with their enormous responsibilities."

The Kansas City Star reports ( that the City Council agreed earlier to provide firefighters with raises averaging 4.2 percent by the end of this fiscal year.
